Overview: A backstrap loom with a heddle stick and a shed-rod was used to produce not yardage, but rather a rectangular cloth of the desired length and width, with selvedges at the beginning and end of the cloth as well as at the sides. When the weaving was over the rods that formed the loom were taken out and the weaver could show a perfectly finished, rather magical cloth that didn’t need any cutting.

Program: We will first examine looms and artefacts from different countries and study the way they work, then we will make and use a simple backstrap loom with heddles stick and shed-rod.
